Having climbed at Pilot Mountain for the last 8 years, I had become pretty fixated on going to the Mountain section and thats its. I didn’t even know there was a river section until a few years ago. Im mean, its called Pilot MOUNTAIN State Park. Why would I go to the river? THERE ARE NO WALLS TO CLIMB. But rainy days make for last minute opportunities for new exploration, so I hopped in the car and went to find out. Located only a few miles from the campground, it makes for a nice alternative when the mountain section are too crowded(or its too wet to climb). Lester Flatt purchased the Park in 1974, improvements included a newer stage and concession stand. Jomeokee Park is a significant part of the area’s traditional music history, and over the years some of the best bluegrass acts in the region and country have played here. E. Alan Pace purchased the Park from Mr. Lester Flatt in 1978, a year before Lester passed away. The Pace Family has owned the Campground / Park ever since.
